Triple Bottom Line Investing: Focus on Social

I wanted to focus this month’s blog post on the social impact of our triple bottom line investing strategy and philosophy.

As I mentioned in my January blog post, the fundamental hallmark of our social philosophy is to create an experience that is more like a hotel rather than a typical office building. We do this in a couple of different ways that all work together to bring about what we call the “Rising experience.”

The experience in a Rising property is all about community. Not only do we promote the tenant community through tenant events and social media, but we also like each of our tenant communities to be actively engaged in the outside community. Whether we’re sponsoring a local event, supporting a charity drive that we are passionate about, or putting on a public event, we aspire to create a positive and collaborative environment that inspires creativity and well-being.

At Rising, property management is a customer-service business and the tenant is our #1 customer. Whether a tenant seeks catering recommendations, needs to schedule a business dinner, wants to know about local venues, or requests assistance planning a company event, the Rising property management team will provide a concierge-level of service. Our priority is to assist in any way we can to ensure the tenant’s success. Why? Because the tenant’s success = our success.

While it is important to engage the community and provide exceptional customer service, I am most passionate about our commitment to charities that impact the particular project locally. Through tenant surveys, every Rising property picks one charity to create a passionate community around the area. We try to come up with creative ways to drive not only our tenant’s interest but also the local community’s interest in that charity and its purpose.  At The Park DTLA, our property on Figueroa between 2nd and 3rd, the tenants chose Union Rescue Mission, which provides emergency shelter, meals, health and dental care, legal services, a recovery program and a transitional housing program for the homeless in Los Angeles. At The CalEdison, formerly One Bunker Hill on the corner of 5th St. and Grand St., the property management team is in the process of collecting survey responses to decide which charity to get behind.

From the artwork and music in our lobbies or on the property, to the specialized services we provide to our tenants, our team strives to create an experience that one wouldn’t expect in an office building. Our goal is to make all tenants and guests feel like they are supporting a greater cause and contributing to the community. We’ve established a team of entrepreneurial and passionate individuals at Rising that range from millennials to baby boomers, meaning we have no shortage of perspectives. Everything we do at a project is carefully thought out and brainstormed in order to create this feeling of excitement and community every time you step foot on one of our properties. It is a foundational belief at Rising that our real estate projects will have a positive impact on our tenants, the community, the environment and all that we interact with on a daily basis.
